Don't Miss the Closing Credits
IRDC is a 2-1/2 day program, and we like to stuff it to the gills with diverse speakers, topics and networking opps. But I know how it is: By the end of any show or conference, you're ready to get home, and you're thinking about all those e-mails piling up (the ones too complicated to tackle via BlackBerry) and how the dogs must be missing you, etc.
Our program goes until noon on Friday, and if you're tempted to book an early flight, I'm telling you: Don't do it! You'll be sorry. I mean it. We've already announced that Urban Outfitters Inc. is our Retailer of the Year, and you won't want to miss James Smith of Anthropologie, who'll accept the award Friday morning. He'll then turn the podium over to Ron Pompei and Robin Osler, two marquee architects who've been instrumental in shaping the UO brands' retail presence. They'll walk us through UO's design strategies in what's certain to be an illuminating and inspiring presentation.
What's more, we've just confirmed our closing keynote speaker, and I can't wait to meet this guy in person (and not just because he looks like this). It's Stanley Hainsworth, chairman of the creative firm Tether Inc. and the former VP, Global Creative, for Starbucks. I've heard fantastic things about him as a speaker, and his retail and branding credentials -- Starbucks, Nike, Lego -- are stellar. More details on Stanley and his presentation to come as we finish dotting all the i's.
So that's two irrefutable reasons to make sure you book an afternoon flight on September 25. The dogs will understand.
